The Total Package

What is the female equivalent of A “Renaissance Man?” “Cause I don’t think there is one and this discovery has pissed me off.

Oh I have looked up the definition of “Renaissance Woman’ and it exists…but it’s just a politically correct revision of the definition of a “Renaissance Man” with the word “woman” replacing “man.” When have you actually heard a woman referred to as a "Renaissance Woman?"

I know a lot of women of many accomplishments….women who have broad intellectual and creative interests who are accomplished in more than one of those interests and where is their “flattering title?”

“Uber-mom” doesn’t cut it. First, the uber mom brings to mind a large and thick woman who can juggle household and family-oriented tasks and carry two children under each arm. Second, you don’t have to be a mom to be a “real woman of genius” (by the way Budweiser, did you forget about the smart chicks when you came up with this campaign?)

There’s “polymath,” a gender neutral word of greek origin meaning “a person of great learning in several fields of study” but three people not currently studying for the SAT know this word or have ever used it in a sentence.

“Women of Distinction” is an organization for African American women, “Women of Substance” is an organization that supports abused women, “Women of Valor” has been used to describe trailblazing Jewish women who helped shape the twentieth century and to describe a group of army nurses in the Phillipines during World War II…

My point is, the good names are taken. So I have created my own, “The Total Package.”

I know many a Vuv who are “The Total Package.” Let me give you a few examples to illustrate my “drift.” My dear friend the doctor who speaks two languages, is knowledgeable about art and culture and is a mom who looks hot in a dress, my ivy league, well-read, sheep knitting, marathon running, “Martha Stewart like” friend and my media rock star buddy who is a golfer, runner, traveler and can tear up a dance floor…these women are “The Total Package.”

Today I salute them and the countless other Vuvs I know who have earned the title….and I ask that if you know one, a “Total Package” that is…that you let them know and salute them too.
